Passport Beta Terms and Community Rules
Last updated: October 19, 2026. Beta terms version: beta-v1. Operator: Kevin Garand. Contact: kevingarand@berkeley.edu.
Using the beta
Passport is a limited travel-log beta for adults aged 18 or older. Use your own Apple account and confirm your eligibility when accepting these terms. No separate invitation code is required. New accounts can join while signups are open and fewer than 50 accounts are admitted; access is not guaranteed and signups may be paused. Other admitted testers may be people you do not know. Do not share access tokens, impersonate another person, bypass admission, evade limits or suspensions, scrape the community, or probe other users' private data. Report security issues privately to the contact above without accessing or retaining other people's information.
By accepting the beta terms in the app, you agree to these rules. The Privacy Notice explains information handling; it is not a blanket consent to unrelated processing. This beta has no subscription or in-app purchase charge. Using it may still incur your normal device or data-service costs. Any future paid offering would require separate disclosure and agreement; these terms do not authorize an automatic charge.
We may change or discontinue beta features, moderate content, or suspend access for violations or safety reasons. For material changes to these terms, we will update the date and provide additional notice through the app or an account contact method before they take effect where required, seeking renewed agreement when required. Nothing here limits rights that applicable law does not allow us to limit.
Your content and other people's rights
You retain ownership of your content. You grant Kevin Garand a nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide permission to host, copy, resize, display, and process it only as needed to operate Passport according to your sharing settings and these terms, including through necessary service providers. This does not authorize selling your content or using it in unrelated advertising. That permission ends when content is removed, except for limited retention described in the Privacy Notice or required by law. It cannot recall copies other people already obtained lawfully.
Only upload photos, writing, and links you have permission to share. Obtain appropriate permission from people shown in your photos. Do not upload identity documents, private addresses, financial or medical records, someone else's confidential information, or content that infringes copyright, privacy, or other rights. Respect the license and attribution attached to third-party destination photos and travel text. Their appearance in Passport does not transfer ownership to you.
Do not enter private addresses, personal names, or confidential information into place search. Submitted searches may go to OpenStreetMap Foundation's Nominatim service as explained in the Privacy Notice. Do not automate bulk lookups, evade rate limits, or remove source credits. Use @username for traveler-only searches.
Safety and moderation
No harassment, hate, threats, exploitation, sexual content, unlawful content, spam, scams, impersonation, or encouragement of dangerous or illegal acts. Do not post another person's personal information without permission. Public profiles, travel content, and comments require operator approval. Updates can return content to review. Approval is not a guarantee of accuracy, legality, or safety.
Use in-app reporting and blocking or email kevingarand@berkeley.edu for abuse or rights complaints. Include enough information to locate the item without sending unnecessary private information. We may remove or restrict content and accounts, and you may contact us to ask about a moderation decision. Making your Passport private does not necessarily hide comments you posted on someone else's item.
If you believe content infringes your copyright or other rights, use the complaint instructions on the Support page. We review credible complaints and may restrict or terminate accounts responsible for repeated infringement. Operator approval is not permission to reuse someone else's work.
Travel information and beta limitations
Passport is not a booking service, navigation or emergency service, or professional travel, health, legal, or safety adviser. Community ratings and external travel information can be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. Verify important information with appropriate official sources. Third-party services can impose limits or become unavailable. Features and data may be interrupted during this beta; keep a separate copy of irreplaceable material. We do not promise uninterrupted operation or that the service is free from every defect.
You can stop using the service at any time. Use in-app account deletion to remove your account; uninstalling alone does not do so. For assistance, see Support.
